Some children thrive in a classroom.

Others need something different.

Brave Roots provides nurturing, child-centred Forest School sessions that give children the opportunity to build confidence, develop resilience and experience success in a safe outdoor environment.

Working at each child's pace, we create meaningful experiences that encourage engagement, self-belief and positive relationships—helping children return to learning with greater confidence.

Alternative Provision

Helping children reconnect with learning through nature

Working with schools and professionals

Brave Roots works alongside schools, local authorities and other professionals to provide high-quality outdoor alternative provision.

Programmes can be designed around agreed outcomes, with regular communication to ensure children are making positive progress.

Provision may include:

  • Individual sessions

  • Small group programmes

  • Short-term intervention

  • Longer-term support

  • Transition support

  • Reintegration programmes

Our approach

Every child deserves to feel successful.

Rather than focusing on what children cannot do, Brave Roots builds on their strengths and interests to create positive experiences that encourage growth.

Sessions are:

  • Child-led and relationship-focused

  • Adapted to individual needs

  • Calm, consistent and nurturing

  • Built around trust and positive relationships

  • Delivered in small groups or on a 1:1 basis where appropriate

  • Designed to promote confidence, wellbeing and engagement

Children are never forced to participate. Instead, they are encouraged and supported to explore at a pace that feels right for them.

Forest School isn't about taking children away from learning.

It's about creating the conditions where learning can happen again.

Being outdoors naturally reduces many of the pressures children experience in traditional settings. Through practical, hands-on experiences, children have opportunities to experience achievement, solve problems, work with others and develop confidence without the fear of failure.

Activities may include:

  • Fire lighting and campfire cooking

  • Tool use

  • Woodland crafts

  • Nature exploration

  • Shelter building

  • Team challenges

  • Seasonal activities

  • Child-led projects

These experiences develop confidence, resilience, communication, emotional regulation and independence in ways that are meaningful and enjoyable.
